Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Cali ("Cali Crunch" on the App Store, "we", "our", or "the app") is an AI-powered calorie tracking application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address or Apple ID (via Apple Sign-In). Authentication is handled by Clerk, a third-party authentication provider.
Food Photos
When you take a photo of food, the image is sent directly to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. Photos are not stored on our servers. They are processed in real-time and discarded after the AI generates a calorie estimate.
Voice Input
Voice input is processed entirely on your device using Apple's built-in Speech Recognition (SFSpeechRecognizer). Audio recordings never leave your device. Only the transcribed text is sent to our servers for food analysis.
Food Logs
Your food entries (description, calories, protein, carbs, fat, and timestamps) are stored in our database (Supabase) associated with your user ID. This data is used to display your daily totals and history.
Usage Data
We track daily API call counts for rate limiting purposes. We do not use third-party analytics services. We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or location data.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide calorie and macro estimates via AI analysis
- To store and display your food log history
- To calculate daily totals and streaks
- To enforce usage limits and prevent abuse
- To manage your account and authentication
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — processes food descriptions and photos to generate calorie estimates. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Clerk — handles authentication (Apple Sign-In, email OTP). Subject to Clerk's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — stores food logs and user data. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
4. Data Retention
Your food logs are retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's Settings screen. When you delete your account:
- Your food logs, conversation history, and usage data are permanently deleted
- Your authentication credentials are removed
- This action is immediate and cannot be undone
We do not retain any personal data after account deletion. You may also request deletion by emailing support@thecali.app.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including TLS/SSL encryption for data in transit, encrypted database storage, and secure authentication via Clerk. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
